Should there be a 1/2" sized hole on the top of the little round area where you advance and retard the timing? Almost appears to have been drilled. Has a pamco ignition if that makes a difference.

There should be a countersunk Phillips head screw at the top of the housing. got a pic of what you are looking at? Info on the bike? Year/model?

'82 xs650, i'll see if i can get some pics this evening. the guy i bought it from just had a piece of tubing with a bolt in it to cap it off.
