Just tore down the top end of a 75-B that has been stored for over 12 years and it looks real nice so far. Next decision point: Do we split the cases or not?
What should I be looking for in those narrow windows to the inside?
Appreciate any advice!
(make that 'split' cases!)

Was there any metal in the filters? If so, I would definitely split them and get them into a parts bath to clean any remaining debris out. A lot of times the cam chain wears through the front guide and leaves shards throughout the engine.

No metal in sight. (I posted elsewhere about a crack inside the starter housing - http://www.xs650.com/forum/showthread.php?t=33365&highlight=machi ) - The cam chain tensioner looks great. The cam chain guide is missing a bit of the plastic edge, but none was found in the sump (probably from long ago). I am replacing the guide.
Sump filter got some sludge, looks normal to me. Nothing major on the sump plug. will pull rear plug tomorrow.
I'll also be removing starter - got a PAM kit and capacitor - How do you like yours TW?
