I’m posting this in hopes to get some guidance on the matter at hand. I’ve disassembled the whole top end and am slowly getting to everything (boring and installing oversize pistons, checking head and valves for spec/lapping, new cam chain etc etc). The whole shebang.
Anyways, while I have it...
Just tore down the top end of a 75-B that has been stored for over 12 years and it looks real nice so far. Next decision point: Do we split the cases or not?
What should I be looking for in those narrow windows to the inside?
Appreciate any advice!

As I disassemble engine components (with the exception of the crankshaft which I just plan to degrease) such as the transmission shafts, starter motor gear parts, shifting mechanism, etc, I've got the following questions:
Transmission Bearings: I have completely taken apart the gears, etc...

was given a '82 donor motor with a bad top end.
I mated the good '78 top end with the '82 bottom end and did a back yard rebuild. After running the half assed rebuild for a couple weeks I decided to bite the bullet and take it in to get rebuilt...
