Intermittent spark

My dual point ignition is making spark sometimes,but not always. Mostly is parks once when it first starts cranking. Point gap is fine and contacts are clean. What gives?

How do you know that is the case? Are you just using a timing light and seeing it light up irregularly?

Think I got it. Coils tested within spec, power to coil primary side, points adjusted good, spark occasionally. Brand new lawn mower battery from Wally World. Hit it with jumpers from the car for shits and grins and BOOM! Bright blue spark. Actually had it running for a bit!

Oh I was just doing the old redneckian stick the plug against the jug and hit the lever.
