Here's mine. '77 chopper with a TC Bros hardtail, frisco style tank and big 'ol sissy bar.

Just got this one a few days ago, my first XS and I'm stoked. I'm only about a third of the way through detailing the bike, but it still looks OK. Let me know what you think.

Thanks for the positive comments. The bike was originally from Chicago (according to the PO) It is pretty well preserved and I intend to keep it dead stock (as much as possible) there are a few things that are begging to be upgraded/improved. Any suggestions for 'must do' jobs? I have read the thread which is generally based around this question, but anything that you have learnt from experience would be greatly appreciated.

I've had one of those since new. I have '81 wheels on mine, so no tubes. I have an o'ring chain. K&N filters in the airbox. Otherwise, my bike is stock. It needs nothing but routine maintenance.

the must do's are: new (good) shocks, tapered (e.g. All Balls) caged bearings in the steering stem and either needle bearings or bronze bushings in the swing arm - note the K&N's are good in the airbox but if you go with pods use Uni's.

Thanks for the response @jetmechmarty, do you source those K&N filters off the net or do you buy local? I am in need of some replacements too...

It has been several years, so I'm sure the brown van or post man brought them.

Mine also has tapered roller bearings in the steering head, bronze swingarm bushings, and the stock shocks are long gone.

yep still basically never have seen an xs i did not llike. sometimes i get a bit sour at the fact i can not afford a 1,000-3,000 $ paint job or high end parts... but something tells me i would not like the build if i were not making the parts :p

whatever you do KEEP the buckhorn handlebars. they work on these bikes and by far are the most ergonomically comfortable.

Will try another shot at this with three pictures. Don't know how the yard got in the last one. These look more like it. Don't know whether to classify it as a Cafe or a Bobber. I did add clubman bars and the fairing.

It came out quite well for a first build. The engine was rebuilt by an aircraft mechanic and works quite well. I put 50 miles on the bike the other day and everything went well. The seat is very uncomfortable and will probably be changed. The flames are really realistic. My friend's air brush work is legendary. I did pretty much all the assembly work and detail work (I plan to show the bike--and ride it as well) The black engine with the chrome accents came off well. I needed supervision on the wiring because I am colour biind.

My only reservation is the noise level. The machine really sounds a bit agressive.

I am giving some thought to a Velorex sidecar. That would look stunning using the same paint scheme.

The bike is very very different from my Honda ST.

newby here
