Just picked up this 74 TX650. My first XS burned up in a blaze of glory last fall, I've been on the hunt all spring and finally found exactly what i'm looking for.

Great find drewfunk these TX650As are getting hard to find.
Had one of these brand new when I was 19 years old.
Having a smoke break while breaking the bike in on a trip up the middle of New Zealand.
Cold wet but a great ride.
Great bike traded it in on a new XS650B.

Cell phone pics! Will get some more photos soon, the are so many little details on this bike and I seem to keep finding new ones everyday...even though I've owned the bike for about 7 months now.

I think I sat on that bike while Dave was building it. He does awesome work, and helped me keep the XS650 spirit alive while I was wandering through the woods with other bikes.

I've been able to see some of Dave's other builds--in progress and finished. All very inspiring and educational!

the right hand case had some crap on it in the first pic but they're cerakoted burnt bronze, low gloss powder coat frame, earlier tank (not sure what year)

Need to order more stuff, then will be doing TW40/39s, lower it 2" up front and 1.5" rear (11" shock)

^^ That seat is awesome man. Did you make it yourself?

My roommate just got a 79 XS650, its pretty great having to troubeshoot the same problems.

My first XS, 79 Special. Bought it already modified, mostly as you see it now. 750 big bore, Mikuni VM34-275 carbs, starter delete-kick start only, two into one exhaust, SuperTrapp muffler, sprocket change (31 tooth rear, havent checked the forward, in fifth gear does 3500 rpm at 60mph), aluminum spoke wheels, metal side covers, 71? seat, cb750 handlebars. I recently installed the luggage rack with backrest, (I know it doesnt do anything for the looks but it sure is practical). Commute 40 miles round trip everyday it isnt pouring down rain.

And an 82 XS400 Maxim which is I just sold.

Drewfunk I built the pan, I was following hughshandbuilt on instagram, started following shop 102, then asked who did his seat work, got in touch with her (Lyon's upholstery), we got along great talking about what I wanted, very easy to work with, it's supposed to be here thursday! I'm excited. :D

Finally got my first XS! I was reading the guide to buying post this morning and couldn't agree more about the first point about not believing a word the previous owner says. I woke to a big puddle of gas under it the first morning of having it home :yikes: . Rebuilt petcocks my rear! But thanks to this forum I learned a few things and ordered some vacuumless replacements from Mike's. Pretty excited to start my journey. Here she is, my '79

If that is a recent photo I'd say you have a rare gem there. Too pretty too mess with IMHO.

As to the fuel pool, one or both of your float valves is between the tank and the puddle (i.e. it is not just your petcock that has a problem). It may be as simple as a piece of dirt holding the needle off the seat but you're gonna have to take the float bowls off to find out.

Welcome to the world of old motorcycles.

You sure got a nice one.
