Any thoughts on these little guys and why they are not attached to anything??
Also the silver circular barrel shaped thing that says TRIDONA on it. No idea what this is. Anyone? See pics

The silver thing is the flasher relay; the white connector missing something is the flasher canceling unit, the black connector used to go to the flasher relay.

So my ignition coils just checked out both tests if you’re familiar with the ohms meter test for these. Voltage regulator checked out earlier. Rotor checked out as well. Why the fuck is this bike with 3700 miles backfiring on acceleration, bogging, just rough?? Plugs brand new just popped in tonight. Carbs all cleaned two days ago.
Man wtf is it?? Lol. Been in garage two days for 9 hours wondering.

Yes to all the above. Diaphram was perfect. No pin holes and put back correctly, with the little lip in the groove it belongs.

As coils age, the insulation starts to break down. A wore out (old) coil will ohm just fine and still be bad. Without going all "perfesser" on you, the coil "see's" the difference 'tween a low throttle (high vacuum) and a high throttle (low vacuum) power setting by how hard it is to jump the gap on the plugs.
In plainer english.... grabbing a handful of throttle will cause the coils to break down if it's internal insulation is weak. Instead of sparking at the plug, the sparks will be inside the coil... so to speak. One way to kinda sorta check that is to cut the gap in half (or thereabouts) on the plugs. Less gap makes it easier for the coil to jump the gap. If the engine runs better, it's prolly the coil. Not a definitive test, but it helps.
I'm not saying it ain't the carbs... or it is the coils, just don't discount either.
I'll give you some wise words from one of my mentors... "Never underestimate the ignitions ability to fool you into blaming the carbs."

So better off to replace the coils then to be safe??? Dont want Mikes stuff but i want to stay stock and no NOS coils on ebay. So im not sure what to do.

What do you gap your plugs at? .28?

You're running the factory dual coil setup. I don't know what everyone is using as replacements for them.... and off the top of my head I don't recall the gap.
Maybe someone will chime in here on what coils they're using?

Plug gap: 70-77 .024 - .028
76 and later: .028 - .032.

Do the check Jim mentioned. Set your plug gap at .012 to .014 and try it. I know it's close but it's easier for the coils to fire the plugs especially under heavy load.
Edit: Might check the Stop switch. Mine was dirty and cracked deep inside and was causing all kinds of problems.

It means the insulation is breaking down in the coil. Hint: it will continue to degrade. ;)
OK well I just changed the gap from 28 to like 22 and she would not fire in the right cylinder. The right sound it was running cold for over a minute . I put it back to 28 fired up and now the right cylinder is hot again. I’m not sure this method works on this bike for some reason

look around the home for a way to feed the XS fuel temporarily with the tank off for diagnosing and tuning. It will be much more fun.
I think you should also consider the easy simple checks first which include simply unscrewing the plug leads from the coils and plug caps to look for corrosion. Clean the connections. Use new plug leads, maybe new plug caps too ? EZ stuff first
;)

FYI, I recently found and ordered some NOS style coils from All Cycle Supply. They are on sale with free shipping for $18.50 each. It appears to be the exact coil Mike's sell for $30 each. I have not received them yet so I cannot speak of their quality, just thought I'd throw it out there as an option for you.
