So I'm talking to a guy about an XS he had the title and lost it The title is in his dead brother-in-laws name. The brother-in-law lived in Louisiana, before I hand over the $4000 will this be a problem?

Just kidding on the 4K, a few hundred is closer to it, the bike is close to being worth that in parts anyways but would much prefer a title....
Anyone know anything about how tough Louisiana is? I think the bil's wife is still living....

LA is a community property state. Each spouse owns 50% of anything acquired during the marriage and when one dies the other owns 100%. She could probably just go get a replacement title in her name.

LA can be surprising legally. I've read that that's because it's laws aren't based on old British common law, but rather on some Frenchy thing. Napoleonic law?
