I have an 81 special that came without a tail light. Got a used one and hooked it up, but as soon as I turn the key on the main fuse blows. Just wondering where to begin looking to find the problem.
Somebody probably wired in a short to ground on the blue wire. Trace the blue wire from the ignition switch all the way back to the socket for continuity, Check from the blue wire to ground for high resistance or infinite, with the bulb out.
OK, I figured it out. The blue wire was not in the socket all the way so it could make a connection with the bulb. Put it in right and everything works as it should....at least for the tail light.
