Mailman's post of Max Headroom in GeorgeOC's recent thread sparked another long-forgotten, but recently retrieved memory......Supercar !!

Anyone remember this 1960's classic?

The "supermarionettes" had little electric motors internally that made movements.

OMG the XL-5 Supercar!! one of my childhood favorites! I think my parents bought me the toy car.

OOOOOOOHHHHHHH - YESSS!!

Supercar (with Mike Mercury & Prof. Beeker), Fireball XL-5 (piloted by Steve Zodiac) and Stingray (with Troy Tempest and his loyal sonar operator - Phones)......and then.....the Thunderbirds and International Rescue.

An entire technological future empire built around puppets filmed with a mix of live action, marionettes, cool props and technology, close-ups of important looking switches being thrown at critical moments, little meters with danger zones marked in red....and sexy lady puppets.

Very cool indeed!

(PS - did anybody else notice that the Thunderbird pilots - the sons of retired General Jeff Tracey - had the same given names as the Mercury 7 Astronauts? John, Scott, Virgil, Alan and Gordon).

As long as we are wandering dowm Memory Lane.....The Red plastic plane with the prop driven by flex shaft from the twin D cell/motorhead? It also had a knob for the pitch control. It probably the reason I did 1/2A Control line(Cox) model airplanes later.

MaxPete, you may also like the following Hi-Tec production:

But before you get too excited I must warn you, it is Tom, not Roger the cabin boy! The other infamous character is Master Mate, not what your ears may deceive you into thinking??

Clutch Cargo and Gigantor are also worth remembering.

Altho I watched The Thunderbirds, too, I never caught the astronaut name thing. I'm assuming it was no coincidence?

At the time, I was building and launching Estes rockets.

Hey! I was actually a member of an after school rocket club when I was a kid. A hobby I took up again when my boys were young. It was a lot of fun teaching them to build their own rockets and then see how excited they were when they launched them!

Indeed I was 'dude!

Hey - rocket enthusiasts - here's a great movie suggestion for you: October Sky with a young Jake Gyllenhall and a beautiful Laura Dern.
Also, the recent movie about black women working in the early US space program as human computers is superb (can't recall the title but it was released in the last 2-6 months).
Finally, an Australian movie called The Dish is also excellent and holds a special place for us because my late father-in-law worked a the faculty where the film takes place - in the little town of Parks in the mid-60s.

Oh, the memories. Let's not forget "Captain Scarlet". Often confused with Fireball XL5. It came out about the same time. You see, it was normal. We are normal, right? What are kids watching today?
Does anyone remember, "Man and the Challenge"?

Do not forget "Clutch Cargo" and his pals Spinner and Paddlefoot. Then there was "Roger Ramjet" and his proton pills. I guess the proton pills where some kind of Viagra???

Wow! These are all great memories! Saturday mornings in front of a black & white TV....
Does anyone remember the Japanimation classic "Astro Boy"?

About 25 years ago I found numerous CDs of cartoon collections. I wanted to get my hands on the crazy Tex Avery Loony Tune stuff made in the '40s -'60s. It was then that I learned of the "banning" of a lot of those classics. Oh, well...
