Can anyone tell me what the purpose is of the little spring clip that attaches to the float needle assembly and 'shrouds' the float needle? It looks like it sits below the top of the needle (as you look at the inverted carb) and therefore is not designed to connect to the tang of the float arm. Is it a 'buffer' for the float arm?
I guess I am asking if I need to do anything with it other than clip it on to the float needle assembly??

It stops the needle from falling out of the valve assembly when installed in the carb. If you drain your float bowl & the float arm drops all the way to the bottom of the bowl - the needle would drop out of the valve assy.
