My Basket-Case Rebuild '78

I picked up a '78 xs650 basket case for $200 recently. This isn't my first xs, I had a 400 before this. I'm currently reassembling the engine and am going to use this thread to ask all my questions instead of cluttering up the forum with 400k question threads.

On to the questions:
I'm reassembling the head and the valve springs are two different sizes... which size go to which valves?
There are 4 metal sleeve looking things about 1-2" long with a red o-ring at the bottom... what are these?

You're flying blind and need to get a manual. All the valve springs are the same but each valve uses 2, an inner and an outer. Also, the springs have tighter windings on one end that need to face a certain way. The tubes go in the 4 outside stud holes of the top cover (from the bottom).
