My first build and first XS650

Did you do that GREEN & ORANGE as a powder coat ? IF so I want to see some pics of your oven set-up ALSO who your powder supplier is, I have gotten some cool looking powders from PENDRY POWDERCOATING, BUT nothing that nice !!

Yes, they are all powder coated. I buy most of my stuff from either www.columbiacoatings.com or www.powderbuythepound.com Those two are a candy translucent over a very high gloss chrome.

Badger, on the frames, the standards with the more upright rear shocks look slightly better but any can be done. The very early frames, before 74 are weaker than the 74 up and need extra bracing added.

Got some more stuff coated today. All that is left to do is the frame after I buy my pamco ignition and figure out the coil mount.

Mini texture black for a lot of the bike. Orange copper translucent on the frame parts and candy green translucent on the fender, seat pan, tank and caliper.

I ordered my new high output pamco ignition today. Can't wait till i get it and make the mounts. Then it is on to sandblasting the frame, powder, then reassembly. I can hear the engine already!

Ok, so I start to install my pamco tonight. I get it in and the weights will not spring freely, even with the rod nuts off. I had to use a file and a bunch of lube and file the inside of the brass bushings so they were round. I get that done, put the weights on, and it works. I put in one c-clip retainer just fine. I go to put in the second and I get my ear attacked by a wasp and the damn clip Goes flying someplace! Now I have to get another tomorrow since it it 9pm and I am not going out now. What a bitch!

Try ank and seat pan. I will be sealing tge tank this weekend, then getting it and the fender to a friends nephew for pinstriping. The seat pan is going to the same friends son for upholstery.

I had to expand my oven a bit to fit my frame for powdercoating. It is a tack welded expanded metal frame, covered in mineral wool and pink insulation to fill the cracks. Powder next weekend for sure!

Well, i tried to heat up my expanded oven tonight. I need to wrap the seem where the two parts meet. I was losing too much heat, and it took 30 minutes to get to 345 degrees. Usually it takes half that, and i was shooting for 475 for outgassing. This weekend i will have this licked.

The start of my seat. It will be a light brown leather with black stitching. And you will be able to see the green in the center of the bottom of the pan.

Got the exhaust wrapped and the frame powder coated today. The lighting makes the frame color change. Time to start reassembly and counting nuts and bolts.

Not only do the colors really pop and stand out on the frame and tins, but all the work looks super clean and detailed. Cant wait to see that rear wheel installed and the engine bolted in!
