What some PO do to our bikes before we get it, can be scary!:banghead:

Was servicing my forks on the week end after figuring out I have 76 model fork lowers with tabs ground off to look like 78, on a 74Tx bike!

The left fork was completely dry, and the right only a tiny bit of oil…….

So rebuilt the forks new seals etc, and fitted it all back up and the damn fork cap was leaking oil…… Put a another fork cap in from another bike same thing……….

Take a look and the PO was drilled down through the threads in two places..:wtf:
Guessing he couldn't get the cap off, maybe he didn't loosen the triple clamping bolts???

As you can see there were two nice big grooves cut in the forks.
I used this rag soaked in a little petrol to clean he oil off the top rim then stuffed the rag into the top of the fork to catch any debris. I moulded some epoxy metal putty into the grooves and let it harden. I then wrapped the fork cap thread in teflon tape to build it up a bit. Once hard I got some emery and sanded the putty smooth. Screwed the cap in down to the O-ring added some silicon, screwed it shut and left it to set.
36hrs later bounced on the forks and no weeping! Yeah baby!

The rest of the process, and the shed made tools can be found on my blog

Just makes me wonder what else I will find:yikes:
