Need help installing a 70's xs motor in an 80's xs bike

Does anyone know of a tutorial on how to install an older engine with points ignition into a bike with electric ignition? I have an '82 that needs an engine replacement and Ive been having issues finding an 80's up model engine, but have found a few late 70's engines. Is this a difficult process? I already know I need to change a few things in the alternator. I have a Clymer manual but it doesn't show what to do to switch out one for another. I also am a little confused about timing this when finished. Any help from some old pro's would be greatly appreciated!

install your 82 stator and rotor onto the 70's engine, that is all.

is there anything I need to do to the cams for timing? or just pull the points assembly out? Or its it just a quick swap of the rotor and stator and all plug and play from there?

you really dont even have to pull the points out, unless you want to.
