NGK BP7EIX for a '75

Just seeing if this plug is a good match for my stock '75. My Clymers manual calls for a "8" heat range plug for the XS-1,XS-2 and XS650B and a "7" heat range plug for the TX650A and the '77 and newer bikes but I think that may be a mistake.

It's not a mistake but you seem to be over complicating things here. You don't want or need any of those fancy "EIX" type, just a plain BP7ES. Yes, I would use the 7 with today's gas. I think the 8's were a Yamaha "pipe dream" when they thought everyone would be tooling across the country on their 650. The only bike I ever put a colder plug in was my old BMWs. They spec a 6 but I would run a 7 when I took a trip and was running 70-80 all day long.
