I'm refurbing my front brake MC and I'm curious to know why it is blackened all over ?

Were these items originally painted black ? or is it where brake fluid has reacted and turned the surface of the Aluminium black over the years ?

Whats the best way to finish it ? Paint it black or soda blast it ? and do you apply any kind of laquer or sealant to keep the brake fluid off ?

I believe the original finish is a baked on enamel. My 79 special's is black. Powder coat or a baked epoxy would be what I would do.

thanks JD.
I kinda had a suspicion that they were finished in black originally cos nearly every master cylinder I see seems to be in a black finish.
thanks for the quick reply:thumbsup:
