So I'm close to the end of a long project and now no fire.
I have a 79 xs650 with a vr500 stator, Hughs plate and reg/rec.
I installed the PM system and used a weak old MC battery to test,
waalaa, nice blue spark, even fired it on a shot of gas through the carbs,
it sounded smooth and nice.
I do basic wiring, 3 fuses plus 20a main fuse, kill switch, headlight,
tail/stop, small battery like a pack of cigs, test again, blue spark, fire it
again quick, runs sounds good.
Get cables cut, install tank, fire it, sounds like shit, rough sputtering,
backfiring, I loosen the points plate, crank it a bit, sounds slightly better
but not good.
Now no spark at all. I remove kill switch, test stator, its good, test main fuse good,
coils test 4.5, 8.8 on both sides, re-time it, seems close enough to spark, nothing.
Suggestions?
