Looked up cam chain for a 1980 and found two parts numbers 94500-02106-00 and 94562-19106-00 both say fit xs650sg and are 106 link. Does anybody know difference or does one supercede the other? Thanks for the help.

I'm seeing the 94562 number starting in the 74-76 parts manuals.
Then, in 1977, the other 94500 number appears.
Haven't found any bulletins or differences, apparently interchangeable?
There have been comments on the 'dogbone' versus 'straight' plate design differences.
Perhaps a supplier change, Tsubaki, DID, ...?

94562-19106-00 - Camchain, starting 1974, D.I.D. (219FT)
94500-02106-00 - Camchain, starting 1977, Tsubaki (BF05M)

Edit: A forum search on "Tsubaki" will find more info.

Thanks 2M, It looks like it is DID OR Tsubaki, Nice to get a factory chain for under 40.00 bucks!! I got my bike running only to find I have a leaky headgasket into left cylinder. So I guess it is time to take it down and do top end and cam chain and guide. One step forward two steps back!!!

The "94500" is the Tsubaki chain and the "94600" is it's master link. The last one I ordered came split and included the master link even though the picture for the chain doesn't indicate that. It looks endless with no master link. The "94562" is the D.I.D. chain and the "94662" is it's master link. The Tsubaki chain is supposed to be better, a bit stronger.

Nice. I don't think Yamaha even sells the D.I.D. chain anymore, but they still sell it's master link. Here's where it gets confusing - they have the D.I.D. master link listed right below the Tsubaki chain. One might think it is the link needed for that chain but it's not.

It can be hard to decipher all this stuff but the parts descriptions give some clues. The D.I.D. number for their 650 chain is a 219FT and for the Tsubaki it's a BF05M. Spying some of those numbers in the descriptions tells you what brand it is.

Oh, one more thing - this is for "447" motors, not the earlier "256" motors. They use entirely different chains.

Geez I'm so over this cam chain thing. Have spent hours trying to fit a new cam chain to my 447 engine - the new chain says "FTS219", while the old chain is marked as "DID219FT". Supplier tells me I have the right chain, they have the same number of links. But when trying to fit the new chain is a link too short, while the old one fits perfectly. I was only replacing the cam chain as I was doing my first rebuild with pistons etc. some have talked about two different chains with different pitches, others suggested tightening the head gaskets to make it fit, and others suggested heating the new chain up so it might stretch enough - I caan't see how I can do that with the bloody thing threaded through. So I have now decided to put the old chain back in and work this out later.

Fitment issues on that chain have appeared on other forums. Something to look into. Maybe the FTS chain doesn't seat fully into the sprocket teeth, or has thicker plates that prevent it from seating into the front guide's groove? Here's a snippet of 219 chains from DID's catalog:
