As usual there's a backstory to this whole mess.
In 1986 I decided I really needed to go to BMW and ride a airhead 650. Up until that point in life motorcycle dealerships were in old houses or old appliance stores etc etc. The BMW dealership was shiny. Walked in and saw their new bike, the k100 and immediately fell in love with it.
They had a brand new 1985 model , in fact quite a few of them that they were offering for $6,000 rolling out the door. I went home and thought about it and a couple of days later decided I was going to buy that bike. I pull up to the dealership and it's gone. On the door is a handwritten note with an address across town. Turns out to be a motorcycle shop that I knew of, not necessarily a dealership. I walked in and they had motorcycles in crates stacked from floor to ceiling in this little place and among others was the bike that I wanted. 45 minutes later I jumped onto my brand new bike that I paid $4995 to drive out.
Up until this time I had ridden mostly my 650 and the two stroke twins and this beast was a eye opener.
Sadly it was a motorcycle somewhat ahead of its time. The part that was not ahead of its time was its total dislike of ethanol. Two $500 fuel pumps later and four or five years of riding it it got parked. Really liked that bike though and for the last 20 years I've walked by it sitting outside very sad.
At this point the really big issue with it is the gas tank and I got a decent one on this deal. Paid $150 for the whole mess. And yes I got the rest of the parts to actually make it roll. It's missing quite a few pieces, but ECU , throttle body, MAF and a good gas tank makes it a deal for me.
150 bucks would pay just the shipping for a tank from eBay so happy camper.
It was fun to get this thing out of his backyard and onto the trailer.
