Hey guys, I am upgrading my transmission with the overdrive
5th gear. My motor is a 78' with some 82' parts. I had
problems with popping out of 2nd and 5th so I bought a whole trans
that I thought to be the late model transmission.*
Went to put the 5th gear on and it doesn't fit. Grabbed my
calipers and here are the measurements:
New 5th gear inner diameter: 0.978"/24.84mm
Original 5th gear inner diameter: 0.984"/25.0mm
Transmission shaft outter diameter: 0.983"/24.95mm
I know there are supposed to be indicator grooves on the gears but are the transmission shafts different O.D.'s? *
If someone has a 80' trans or later to measure I would appreciate it. And if you have one you don't need even better.
I'll try to get some pics of the trans up.
Thanks in advanced.
