Many years ago I read a museum article where after cleaning the rust stains off the chrome they heated the chrome and applied micro-crystalline wax. The idea being that the heating drives out any residual moisture and also melts the wax which then penetrates the pits and cracks to prevent further rusting.
Does anyone know the details for this method e.g. is the micro-crystalline wax the stuff from a hobby shop for candle making?
Thank you.
