A couple of questions about Pete's well-known reg/rect replacement, for anyone who has built it. How hot do the diodes get in use? Do they get hot enough that you can't keep a finger on them? Wondering how much heat sinking is really needed. Considering drilling through the reg. and mounting them on it, figuring the box is 95% empty and cheap enough to risk drilling through a component. Also, any pic of your mounted unit would be useful, to get ideas for mounting it.

I mounted my rectifiers on a 1/4 inch thick piece of aluminum cut bigger than the old rectifier. It barely fits between the frame under the battery box. Used a 5/16's bolt in the center of the plate and bolted it back where the stock one was.
If it ever burns up I have some Aluminum channel about 7/8's inch wide and 9/16's inch deep. I will weld it on to the plate to add more cooling.
Sorry no pics.
