Rear axle problem with hardtail weld on

My bike has a hardtail that was done when I got it and now stock axles arent long enough..or too long..cant remember which. what should i do about it? ive a got a big ass home depot bolt holding it on there for the build but i know i gotta go something a little more permanent before i finish. any help would be great! thanks in advance!

Homemade tail? Post up a measurement from between axles. Sounds like your gonna need one made and no a bolt wont cut it!

Pre 1974 Axles are shorter, that might be your issue... Trying to put a pre 74 rear wheel on a frame made for a 74+.
