so i have a 1978 xs650 and i cant seem to get the rear master cylinder to work. i have taken it apart and cleaned it multiple times. all of the components seem to be in good shape, but for some reason it wont pump fluid. everything inside the master cylinder is clean and nothing should be blocking the passage and the brake line and resivior line are all clean through. there are no air leaks either. so at this point i have absolutely no clue why its not working. im hoping to get some knowledge and help here so i can get my bike ride-able. any help or suggestions or anything will be greatly appreciated! thanks!

I'd say you should buy an overhaul kit for the rear master cylinder. I re-built my rear M/C with the kit from Mikesxs about 6 years ago and its worked great since then.

If your brake line is empty, its easier to pre-fill the line with brake fluid, while its on the bench. Once you install it on the bike, there is almost no air to vent, so a hard pedal comes immediately. Use a syringe to pre-fill the line.
