rear running light burns out

I use a 1/8" thick full size aluminum backing plate, with rubber sheet sandwiched in between, and yes, 4 bolts. They changed our bike plates several years ago. They went from the normal stamped tin plate with raised letters/numbers to a thin totally flat sheet of aluminum. All the writing/numbers is just a giant sticker on there now. They're terribly weak.

I'm lo-tech, grab an old (not torn) MC plate, run a bead of silicone around it near the edge, lightly sandwich the current plate to it with 4 bolts, the crack in the "lifetime collector plate" has stopped growing.
