Rejetted my socond XS, problem solved....sort of

Good day! My second XS. This is an 83 with the electric ignition.

I see that the PO gutted the exhaust which was causing severe backfiring. I went a step up on the jets and bam! problem solved. Now that I have the engine tuned up and the carbs acting right I see that the idle will remain fine for a minute then will shoot up, calm down, and generally behave irrationally. I am not sure about what might be causing this. I thought maybe it is the ignition, but it should not be if it is an electronic one like this 83 has.

Any suggestions????

Double check your float height. This can cause it to rev, then slow, rev, then slow.

Thanks! I will double check this. Stands to reason that it may have changed with me taking the needles out and replacing over and over. I have been in there anyway so I may well have bumped them or something. Anyway I appreciate it!
