I'm about to remove the engine and want to remove as few parts as possible.

Anyone knows if it is possible to remove the front drive sprocket with the chain still on?

And with the sprocket off and the chain hanging loose around the swingarm, will there be enough room to remove the engine?

Pop the master link its easier then pulling the side cover and taking the sprocket off.

Yes, it's usually possible to pull the sprocket off if there's enough play in your chain but the chain won't flex to the side enough to get it off the countershaft. That's not a problem for engine removal because the engine will pull right out of the chain as you remove it to the left. You just have to remember to fit the chain back over the countershaft as you install the motor before it's completely in place. Once the engine is mounted, you won't get the chain back over the shaft without breaking it.
