Restoration of Chrome Parts

What are my options with this?

I assume (but by no means confidently) what I’m looking at here is the nickel layer beneath the chrome?

How would I go about stripping this back the Is there anything effective available to the public or should I seek out the help of a metal finisher?

I am not sure what part that is?? If that is the cap over the clutch adjuster then they are available from Yambits for about £13 + p&p: Listed as XS650 chrome clutch cover. Probably on Ebay also.

The local hardware has faucet "cock hole covers" for cheap, good ones are made from stainless, can be polished to a high shine, a bit of adjustment of the rear fingers, and bob's your uncle.

I think I’ll keep sourcing a replacement as my plan b, plan a is to send the part off with my spoke nipples to be yellow zinc plated, I think that would look quite good against the polished cover.
