Side stand spring for 77

The side stand spring that you can buy on its own from Mikes is only for bikes up to 76, and he doesn't carry one specifically for a 77 and up. Will the 76 spring work on a 77? Can it be modified?
Does anyone know where to get one that works for a 77?

You should be able to still get it from Yamaha. Judging from the extensive model list it was used on though, it might be pretty easy to scrounge one (or eBay one) .....

The early spring is shorter so probably won't work.

Damn it. My spring broke today and mikes is a one day ship but Noooooooo. They don't carry the spring for my 81 frame and I have an appointment for Friday morning to to have my back tire replaced. Can't ride it with it bouncing all over... Can't sit on the bike and twist tie the damn thing up myself.

Your local ACE hardware will have a spring that will do until you can source the right one. I've done it.

Tape or wire the end of a bungey cord or coathanger to the stand that is long enough for you to pull up the stand while sitting on the bike?
