silly dellorto carb small nipple question

i know the big nipple is for fuel to the bowl but theres a smaller nipple thats 90ed out and sticks up.... whats it for? i know its some how connected to the fuel cus when i blow into the nipple that hooks up to the fuel air comes out... and when i flip the carb upside down the float shuts off the flow and air no longer comes out of the small nipple... so it cant be for balancing fuel levels... is it a breather? what should i do with it? I tried googling it but couldnt find n e thing

thanks.. and wow tons of info... so should i just leave it open?... after looking at the pdf diagrams on dellortos site it looks like it helps with the choke as well using the air in the float bowl to atomize fuel and air or something like that..

Yes. Leave it open.

short piece of hose on it wouldn't hurt 4" or so and it should be pointed down if possible to keep dirt/water out

Hey Jay you can actually just point the barbs straight down. That's what I'm doing.
