I would say there would be some fab work required for that.
I am thinking about doing that exact thing. I want a easy on/off rack for trips so I could throw a tail bag on or tie stuff down. As Ghetto said it would be a full fab job. I would probably come off the upper shock mounts and the rear hoop for mounts. A good winter project.

Accessory luggage racks for the specials are still available.
But they hang off the back leaving a 4-5" gap between the stock seat and the front of the rack.
Are you thinking of something tighter fitting? That would hug the back of a solo seat sitting over the locking part of the stock seat?

Actually I was looking for a more comfortable seat and I thought a solo seat with a luggage rack on the top of the back fender would work great for me, but I may keep the stock seat and see if I can reshape and recover it and skip the luggage rack.
