Somewhere I read that old skateboards make good seat bases. Easy to work with etc.

I run clubmans... I think they're fine. Everyone says something about how it must be uncomfortable, but then I get on and they can see I'm not really in a horrible position. Maybe in a position like a mild sport bike... like a Katana or something.
I don't have rear sets. I find it comfortable. I say give them a try first and see if you think it could be better. That's the great thing about a rolling project.
I made an abbreviated frame for my seat then made a pan over that out of fiberglass, then glued some closed cell foam to it and wrapped it with seat cover from ebay from a guy called MAC or something. My seat cover is for a Suzuki TC90 and cost me $25, but I think upholstery makes a big difference.

Yes a friend had one of these original a la Verde tanks five gallons. I got the fuel cap from Aircraft Spruce.
