I had to chop my steering lock to fit my springer front end. Has anyone done this? Just looking for ideas on how to fill it. I suppose i could just weld it up and finish it. Is this my only option? Frame is a 71

I'd be leary of a big hot gob of weld causing distortion to the neck. Looks like you left enough metal so frame strength is not an issue. a small plate JB welded or brazed in place?
That neck seems to have been around the block a time or two? You going to do a bit more welding on those gussets?

Haha I was kinda hoping the four tack welds would be enough to keep the gussets on. the frame is had been around the block a few times and now being hard tailed so there is lot of grinding and welding happening

mebby sump'n like this?

I'm no engineer but have looked into gusset tech a bit, you want it solidly connected but able to flex enough to absorb stress not just concentrate it in a new place. Side gussets with a rear radius like that are usually considered to be the best type.
