I’ve spent the better part of the day shopping from my recliner for two things, tires for my wife’s car and a folding multi purpose ladder ( think Little Giant ).
Everything has gotten so expensive! The car is a little econo box Toyota, the tires are not huge. Half of tires I was interested in we’re out of stock, the rest are stupid expensive! I’d sure hate to see what tires for a Corvette or a big ass truck would cost.
Then there’s the ladder , Harbor Freight used to sell a Little Giant knock off , you could get it on sale all the time for $99. I’ve been waiting for the Labor Day Sale, and now that it’s finally here….and it’s not on sale. They want $150 ( it’s alright for $99 but not $150 )
Most of these multi purpose ladders are selling for anywhere’s from $180 - 300! So after way too much time looking around online, I decided on a 15 foot Gorilla ladder at Home Depot, heavy duty and well made on sale for $150 online.
I really wanted it now , so I checked store inventory. NADA, ZIP, ZILCH . I could order it online and they’ll ship it to me for free. Ok, seems reasonable. But when I went on the Gorilla website they had a big fat warning that said, due to high demand and supply chain problems you could experience a delay…please be patient. Patience is not my strong suit. Recent rains exposed a leak in my roof, and I think I know where the problem is, but I can’t get up on the roof with my current ladders.
Oh I could go to the store and pick up something bigger and more expensive than I need but .
One more gripe, then I’ll shut up. It took me a while to figure out a little scam that all these ladder makers are running. They lie about the size of these ladders. When they are fully extended they are not as long as they try to make you think they are. A fifteen foot ladder is actually less than twelve. An eighteen foot ladder is less than sixteen. How they describe them is like this “ 18ft reach ladder” meaning when you stand on the highest safe rung and reach up, you can reach 18’. Seriously? What kind of BS is that?
Imagine you bought a sofa online that was advertised to be an 8’ sofa and when you got it it measures 6’. You call the company up and say what gives? They say “ Well, when you hang your arm off the side, you can reach 8’.”
