Stock swingarm question.

I have an '83 SK frame on my bench and I notice what feels like excess side play in the swingarm. Best as I can measure I have .048" play - right to left if you were sitting on the bike. The fit across the diameters feels fine. No discernable play. I checked my Haynes manual and there's nothing about end play tolerances, it just says "grind shims to suit". Also checked the factory manual and searched online including this site. All somewhat vague. (I like numbers). Can anyone give me some input on this?

Is the pivot bolt torqued to spec? The swingarm will have side to side play until the pivot bolt is tight. Also, the grease seals need to be in place as they are an integral part of the spacing.
