Tach/speedo combo

Hi and yes. Are you wanting to use a mechanical or electronic speedo / tacho?
If it's mechanical, there's a multitude of options that can connect to the drive from the front wheel.

If you're wanting to go electronic, then there are a couple of options - electronic pick up or GPS. In the past, I have used the Trail Tech Vapor which had an electronic pick up sensing a small magnet attached to the wheel. You simply tell it what diameter wheel you're running. There's also a pick up off the coil / plug leads to count RPM and a neat surround to house indicator lamps -

On my current build I'm going for GPS because I don't want a sensor cable trailing through the build. The one I've chosen is actually for a boat :). http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171931089324?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

Be careful in your location re laws governing your speedo and what acceptable ;)

On the gps style, do you know if there are issues w signal loss in rural areas? I'd rather a bulletproof option but like the idea of less cables

Pretty sure those GPS satellites reach even to "rural" areas :wink2:

I use my phone with a speedo and the "HERE" GPS ap, they generally agree with the stock speedo, they are more accurate than the mech unit at steady speeds and lag during acceleration.

Rural areas are actually better for satellite reception. I've never had any issues with accuracy or reliability, apart from in tunnels. On my trail bike I've just got a protective cradle for my iPhone and use a free app to measure speed, where I've been etc etc
