TCi not sparking

Hi all,
I'm in the UK. I recently bought blind another XS650 that had been in 'storage' but was said to be complete. I only wanted the parts.
Anyway, bike gets delivered and I find a US import that spent a very short life on the roads in some sunny state and the rest of it's life in dry UK storage.
It's WAY TOO good to cut up, has never been messed with, perfect untouched harness, no spanner or screw driver damage.
Now the engine has no spark, after following the diagnostic check list I think I've got it down the pick up coil which seems almost if not impossible to pick up here in the UK.
So I'm thinking of just fitting the Boyer Bransden kit as per my other XS.
But this would mean leaving chunks of the original harness as 'dead' wires and I'm not sure what effects this might have on other components.

Any comments or advice gratefully received.
Thanks, Dave.

Hey, Blue2, try forum search "magnet", some folks were able to rejuvinate TCI triggers by attaching a rare-earth magnet over the old magnet...
