Timing problem

Here's a good one. It has happened. Did you install the cam back wards? Like, which side of the engine are the points and advance mechanism?

The cam chain is not new. There was 12k miles on it. I removed it, cleaned and inspected it, oiled and reinstalled it. The rod is cleaned and lubed, moves freely and both end pins point the same way. The points plate has the R at the top. The pin that Downer is talking about is fine and the ATU plate is fine too. This is starting to bum me out a little. I really do appreciate you guys trying to help me though.

Problem solved finally. When I got this bike it had a brand new set of points in it. Well, just for S&G I ordered new points from Mike's. Just installed them and the timing came right in. The points that were in there looked right so I didn't suspect them to be the problem. Me so happy now, having a beer or 2. Motor will be in the frame early next week. Thanks to everyone that responded!!
