triple tree interchangeability

hey All,

I have a 1972 front end on my 1971 xs650. The triple tree stem was bent so I went to the salvage yard to get a new one and pulled a lower stem from a 73 xs650. Turns out it is much wider than the 72 lower triple tree so it wont work. Do I have to get a 72 lower triple tree or can I also get a 71 or 70 lower triple tree?

No, Tripple trees from 70-73 should all be interchangeable. Same frame and fork size.
