Turn signal problem.

i980 xs650. When I use my right side signals, no problem. When I use the left side signals, they work only when the key is in the on position. As soon as I start the bike they don't work. Only the right side signals work with the engine running. I recently replaced the rear left signal, but not sure if that caused the problem. Any suggestions?
