Is this fuzz / fur on the inside of my 73 TX650 air cleaner cases normal?

Thanks for the reply. I’m blasting air boxes in preparation for painting and this stuff is really stuck in there. Assuming it must have been factory applied or done by the PO? What purpose would it serve,... additional filtration or support for the filter maybe?

Try paint remover on the glue that is holding that stuff on. I have seen that that fuzzy stuff before, but I can't remember where -- it's what the factory filters were made out of on either XT500s or some year XS650. But, it's not supposed to be where yours is. That is definitely the work of a PO. Maybe to support the filter as you suggest -- your guess is as good as mine. Those red paper filters in your pics are replacements. They should be a decent fit without the fuzzy stuff.

Will give the paint remover a try. Hope I’m not making a mistake by removing the fuzzy lining in the air filter cases. I just don’t see how I can repaint them with that fuzz in there.

I would also like to add that the amount of information and help available on this site is UNREAL. It has been a huge help to me during my restoration project. Thanks to you and all those that take the time to respond and share experience and information.
