Utah winter build

I got my first XS a couple months ago, 1975. I need something to keep my busy over the winter. I ski but I can't afford it any more these days. I hesitate doing a build thread but I have enjoyed all the build threads I have looked through so i thought I would try to contribute. The forum has already been a big help and I am sure will continue to be over the next few months. I am going to be taking my time, busy with a son who races areacross and all his motorcycle problems. So here we go.

What I am starting with. It does run, but badly. The brakes dont work and leak like crazy.

Got the wrong gasket. Its a 75 bs38.. i thought. But I guess I need to order the next year choke gasket. 8 hole?

Your gauges are not XS650 parts, not sure what they came from. The 75 had a dash panel that the gauges mounted in. As well as the key switch.

Tank finally done after about a 100 coats of primer sprayed on and sanded off.....

Got the tires mounted, wow that was not easy, even with a proper tire machine.

Finally winter seems to be coming to an end around here. I am starting to get more and more excited to ride this thing. Last couple have weeks a bunch of stuff has come together, here is how she looks now.

I wanted to make sure i got the engine home without major damage. Haha.

New PMA (thanks Hugh) Didnt get it on right the first time but Hugh helped me out.


Finishing up the cases, polishing took all the paint out so I dripped it back in slowly.

finally got my seat back. Took 2 months... turned out better then I hoped though. I really like it.
