How do the valve seals come off of the guides? Mine don't seem to want to move easily and I don't want to apply any force to them without knowing how they come off.

nevermind, sorted it out. I thought they might work differently than expected.
For anyone wondering, they slip over a lip on the valve guide, and the outer shield is just a metal cap that sits over the rubber body of the seal.
I popped them loose by gently prying up on them with a flathead leveraged against a non-sealing surface and then pulled them off with my fingers.
