Hi all,
Should I lubricate the valve stems when I re-assemble my cylinder head. I am using the original valve guides and valves.
Tim.

I don't know, I think they have toilets in the Vatican.
The stems were dry when I removed the valves so I thought they might be hardened and run without lubricant.
How does the valve stem get lubricated during normal engine running?

I think a very small amount of oil gets by the guide seals, enough to lube the guides. Yes, oil things up during assembly.

Definitely oil the valve stems. The stem seals do allow a very small amount by so that the stems are lubricated. For years, the conventional wisdom was if you used bronze guides you ran without seals because they needed a lot more oil than iron or steel guides, dunno if that's still true.
