Hi folks, I have just started to restore my 1b. When I drained the oil I noticed a lot of fine metal shavings. Took of the R/H crankcase to check the oil pump and there is a very clear area that has been worn by a rotating part. The measurments show that the only thing that can hit the case is the clutch basket, has any one had this before? Bit stumped at the minute.

Something like this? This is what I found inside my original right cover on my '78 .....

My best guess is someone in the past had assembled the clutch basket wrong, either putting too many spacer washers in or putting them in the wrong place.

Hi 5twins, it looks exactly like that just not as extensive in length, seems to be catching in just one place. I suppose the only remedy is to strip and rebuild the clutch? Thanks Pete

Well, maybe not rebuild it, but you better pull it apart and make sure there are the correct number of washers, the right thicknesses, and in the right places .....
