What have you done to your XS today?

I pushed my Heritage Special/American Spirit sidecar rig to the back of our long skinny garage to make room to park our replacement Hyundai Tucson inside.
The weather forecast predicts an inch of snow overnight. There's still 3 weeks of insurance left on the rig so I'm OK for a quick ride if it warms up a bit.
.

Front end assembly is going well and looking so sharp!
This evening I did actually install the fresh front forks, dent free headlight ears, improved chrome accessories
And SR500 handlebars there.
I do have more parts lined out by now that I just need the time to keep on assembling

After completing the deal with gggGary (Gary, please enjoy) at VYR I rode the Tail of the Dragon on the King and found that the fearless guy isn't in me anymore. Today I looked in the garage and saw lot's of room to fill with a new project (no room for a "T-bucket") so it's prolly going to be some different bike.

I picked up my newly bored oversized and honed cylinders and pistons. I plan to paint the cylinders black with BBQ or Hi temp paint. There is a Barrio Bike night tomorrow night so the top end swap might start Thursday. Yes, pics and new thread to come.

Wow that was fast service on that cylinder work! Btw, I really like black barrels on these bikes!

Got a new seat for the xs650 but it's for the little cb better. It honestly bolted up. The length is 25 inches. Same as stock. Only 50 from china. Hard to find online.

First things first. About the dragon. When I was running around in the mountains my biggest fear was gravel that spilled out from private drives or roads. Pulling up the mountain not so bad, kinda fun. Braking hard coming down not so fun. OK. So my XS2 on its first start up on the test tank was perfect. So now it’s time to fit the tank. I put it on my table hanging the fuel valves over the edge and began to slowly add a gallon of fuel. Fuel was leaking badly out of the left side fuel valve. Everywhere. I carefully relighted and stopped the leak. Let it sit for a day. Added another gallon. Still no leaks. Put it on the bike, cut and connected the fuel lines. Went to start it last night and gas was pouring out of the left side carb overflow tube. I think I have a stuck float.:banghead:

Sometimes the problems never end eh? Just keep reminding yourself....this is fun....this is fun....this is fun o_O

I did Pete. I rapped it good. I asked my guru that helped me pop it over if I should fire it up and pop it loose. He said “ If gas is pouring out it’s not a good idea. He said “Get back on the the test tank. It ran perfect on a test tank. If it works? Then you have a float level valve problem. I’ll keep you posted. Thanks.

78E front end is going so well.
Turn signals now. Along with fender and brake parts. I had much more fun carefully positioning everything better this time than on the other XS’s I’ve done this too.
Yes, it’s been a long time since this bikes front was put together incorrectly by me lol a few years ago. Feels great to be getting both ends of the bike serviced and situated how it should be. I am almost back to solving the electrical troubles that parked this bike in the first place. (blown fuse repeatedly and charging)
This 78E is cosmetically very pretty chromed up but not polished at all. Slight dings, patina, (rust) and scratches are all going to be appropriate as this is a very light custom survivor.

Quoted myself :)
Explaining this may cut me slack ? Maybe not .. See when I originally “serviced” this steering stem, removing the according pieces, I had this XS inside my Duplex half hanging in the living room corner under a ceiling stud hook (over size) disguised as a flower hanger :lmao:
Mid night Rum & Cokes after swing shift bike mechanics at its best :D
Had fun but I did apparently then not fully know the parts (extra headlight ear rubbers crammed in) and such.
It was the first :umm:

Haha! Oh man that cracked me up! When I was young and single, I was living in this 2 bedroom apartment that I shared with another young guy. We both had motorcycles and nowhere to work on them, so we just rolled them into the living room and tore into them in air conditioned comfort. We had dirt bikes parked in the dining room and there were great big oil stains on the carpet! :lmao: We were idiots , add to that the occasional kegger party. It was like Animal House. Needless to say we didn’t get our cleaning deposit back!
