What is needed

Man first it has been along time since I have been on here . So what I am looking for is some help . I started looking at my xs finally !!!! So I want to start with making sure the engine will RUN !!! So The wires are a total Fing mess !!! SO I wanna ripp all of it out . Thing is I have never worked on a xs so what is the bare miniumal I need to have to make this run . Its a 1981 I think lol . I wanna start cutting up this thing up and getting all the shit out of the way . SO any help will be appreciated !!!!

Ok in the XS650 tech section, a link is found at the top of every page, there is a thread titled "Some, Wiring Diagrams" You will find many diagrams. I like the I think #4. It shows a basic points ignition with the separate reg and rec. It has the later TCI and combo reg/rec in boxes. just swap the boxes to match what you have.
To wire it up so it will run just hook up the ignition to a fully charged good battery.
Use the kick start to start the engine.
I have a copy of that diagram. I'll post it.
