what other hobbies do you have?

I feel ya Leo...I love guns, cant afford em, I love the outdoors, cant afford to travel like that. The insane cars and r/c stuff...wow....just jealous I guess. My stuff is pale in comparison. I am glad they are enjoying themselves to their limits....Happy Thanksgiving to all.Kev.

I'm not a fan of new threads rehashing old topics so I used that wonderful search button and bumped this one up from the dead...

Aside from motorcycles, I have a BS. ED. Social Studies with a history concentration (but I don't use it). I really like to travel and get a visceral feel for history. Been to Normandy, France as well as most of the Civil War Battlefields within a couple hundred miles. England a few times, seen some awesome history there. A lot of times my love of mechanical things and history are intertwined. When I bought a handgun, it was a 1911, not a Glock. I bought a '79 XS650 to turn into a style that would be a rolling piece of motorcycle history instead of a new sport bike like so many my age.

I shoot and hunt. Haven't gotten to in a while with being busy and lack of funds. Hopefully I can get to the range soon, my 1911 and PPS haven't been fired in about a year, maybe more.

I've been a fan of motorized things since I was a tot, instead of "Goodnight Moon", I had my Mom reading me books about engines. I try and get to as many car and bikes shows as possible (Carlisle Euro-Import and Kit this weekend!) A buddy of mine races NASA, 944 Cup and more recently behind the wheel of a tube chassis 240Z with a TT LSx under the hood. I don't get to touch that monster but I'm often fixing 944 bits broken by his spirited driving habits.

I dabble in photography but I'm by no means good at it. I picked up a 70-300 lens for this years racing and car shows, so hopefully I can begin to master that.

I would like to get my old R/C cars out and possibly get into R/C flight but my play money is just going to other hobbies.

I didn't realize there were things beyond bikes (mine) beer (mine too, making it, that is!) and babes (my babydoll wife and my baby boy).

Seriously, it's what you have time for. I went from 28 guns and 5000 rounds a month down to 5, and I shoot maybe 8 times a year. But I went from 1 motorcycle (87 454 Kawi) to 3! 03 Road Star, 02 SV650, 79 XS650 Special II.

I don't have enough time for what I have, so starting up something else makes no sense at all.

lets see.

I used do do RC stuff from very small indoor to larger semiscale.

scale models.

I like to play guitar, bass, canoe, kayak, drink heavily, listen to and collect old punk records, and garden...

Yeah that sounds pretty boring, but I was raised that way. Currently working to turn the dirt patch we call a backyard into something green and livable so my 16 month old son has somewhere nice to play. Its also where I keep the bikes so making it all work is a challenge.

I recently got back into model cars and dioramas. I lost all the talent I ever had as a kid.
But now I have a closet full of new models...to ruin......ha ha..

I also have probably 30 kits unopened that I would like to get to building again. I have always poked around for models and bought ones I particularly like, even if I haven't been building.

Unfortunately most, if not all, of my paints are trash from sitting unused for a couple years. I should reorganized and budget myself a little money to get building again but with two motorcycle projects I spend all my time in the garage.

Understood Derek....My hobbies more than outweigh my budget and talents....Some of these guys on this forum are way too talented.

All you guys need to give yourselves a BIG HAND......awesome stuff here.....Kev.

my biggest hobby is procrastination. Seriously though, I enjoy collecting old firearms in bad condition, the worst the better. I especially enjoy guns that have pieces or parts that are broken or missing. I find the challenge in making the repairs and restoration to be most exciting. The best part of working on guns is the mixture of wood and metal. These are two distinct hobbies rolled into one. Machining is what I do for a living and I don't mind bringing work home. Over the years I have slowly built my shop to accomidate my hobbies by purchasing the necessary equipment as I could afford the different machines. I am now equipted with a Bridgepoprt milling machine along with a nice vintage South Bend lathe. I also found a nice surface grinder and welding equipment along with other machines to make fabrication a bit less difficult.
As of recent, my son has got into playing airsoft and his gear is always in need of repairs. The best I could do was show him how to use the shop equipment so He could do his own repairs. Now I stand back and watch him run the machines which has turned into a hobbie that we can share. What good are hobbies if you can't share them?

Nice, twowheelinjim.

When I worked at the cannery, I had access to a Bridgeport and a Hendy lathe. I'm no machinist by ANY stretch of the imagination, but I managed to teach myself enough to do basic turnings and some mill work with the Bridgeport.

Both machines were older than dirt (1920's - 30's) and neglected in a back corner of the shop after the company decided to outsource all their machine work years back. I dusted them off and lubed them up good and talked the Head Shop into buying a few basic tools and some inserts. Saved a few bucks and some downtime by being able to make/repair a part instead of waiting for the outside shop to get to it.

I'd love to have some similar tools in my shop, but no room, no money, and no 3 phase power.

Neither my son nor my grandsons share my love of things mechanical. They're happy enough to have Granpa fix something for them, but they'd rather lean up against the bench and text than lend a hand. :(

I bass fish, trail ride.Mostly go to work, sometimes ther isnt enough time in the day,to do the stuff you like.
I'm the most happy trail riding, working on bikes with my buds..

Time for a revive.

Here's a pic that has some action.

All i could catch was catfish all day. Killed them and threw them back and this old Sea eagle was sitting on the top branch of a dead tree just watching and
full
waiting for dinner

No i haven't, know they are considered a delicacy in other parts of the world. Probably overlooked here because of other fish that look better.

Not real big on fishing but was in a remote part of cape York and had nothing else to do on my day off, so bought a rod and learnt to lure

Sea eagles aren't
full
small either. Here is another one and its exercising its right of way. Smaller Hawk has about a 2 1/2 foot wing span

I collect antique razors. I own several straight razors which are more for show than use. I'm not that comfortable putting a knife to my throat. I have several double and single edge safety razors but my favorite is a Schick injector from the 1930's which I use on a daily basis. I also apply lather with a mug and a brush. Yeah it takes a little longer than it would with a can and a Mach3 but I get a super close shave and there's something real manly about taking my time and shaving this way. I'll post a few pics when I get a moment.

Here are a few of my other hobbies, the unpainted is a 32 ford sedan and the brown roadster is a 26 ford model t modified. Both were built by myself with a few things farmed out. I also have a 47 ford coupe and a 51 mercury that need to find new homes. I used to build 1/24 1/25 scale cars and trucks (mostly hot rods) and i dabbled in 1/144 scale aircraft(really small scale) but I lost intrest in the model thing.
