A 20-mile loop of the house. Looks like fall has gotten here this week.
Wow !Having spent most of her life in Hawaii then a Canadian Tire warehouse, Princess Waihila has been on my case to go for a ride and check out the fall colours. Weather wise could not have picked a better day, colours, meh, not a whole lotta red, perhaps we're a little late. We rode up to McCrea Lake then hiked into the Eagles nest (44.917386, -79.792498). Awesome day!

It was 72 degrees and sunny in Central New York today, and as I walked into the garage, I heard a little voice crying, “Ride ME !!...ride ME !!” It was the ’83, and it’s been a month since it has tasted The Road. Must have been starving.
The fragrance of manure seemed to be everywhere in the country roads east of Fenner, where the wind turbines dominate the landscape, along with cows and John Deere’s.
In the town of Nelson, I saw a massive old barn out of the corner of my eye. Barns like this are rapidly disappearing, crumbling inwards due to neglect. But before I was able to park the bike, two young guys in the house next door waved me over to where they were drinking cheap beer and listening to Pink Floyd’s Another Brick In the Wall. There was a nice Honda moto-X bike in the garage. We chatted for 10 minutes or so about……..what else: dirt bikes and beer. They saw no harm in me taking a picture.

Behind my bike was an enormous tree, which I suspect is a “First Generation” tree, which historian Eric Sloan (Our Vanishing Landscape) described as an original growth tree which was the focal point for a farm in the early 1800’s.

And then to Hardscrabble Road in West Eaton.

….and to Trinity Acres Farm just down the road.

A sweet ride, for sure.
I think I heard the '83 give a sigh of satisfaction.

But I gotta ask, Dude! What's with that big ass shovel?
Mailman, I like trees. Not sure why, just do. So whenever I'm out and about I'll take a shovel full of dirt with a tree in it, bring it on home and plant it somewhere on the property. Been doing it for years. So I've got red pine, white pine, jack pine, scotch pine, spruce, sugar maple, maple, red oak, black oak, white birch, yellow birch, you name it. I've got trees from just about every Canadian province. Now's a great time of year since they are going dormant and chances of survival on replanting are greater. (I'm no arborist, just my experience).
